VALERIA SIGN
My name is Valeria Sign, and I paint at the intersection of abstraction, futurism, and hi-tech aesthetics.
My path as an artist has been shaped by change. I began one painting before my life shifted dramatically - before three years of emigration reshaped the way I see distance, permanence, and home. I returned to my native country to finish that piece, carrying with it everything I had learned along the way. It became the work that confirmed how I paint today.
I'm drawn to contrast the matte and the glossy, the transparent and the opaque, the still and the shifting I build my paintings with mixed media - acrylics, textured paste, epoxy resin, metallic and mirror-effect materials - so each work changes with the light , and the angle it's viewed from. No two viewings are quite the same.
I don't make paintings to raise alarm or to comment on the moment. I make them to offer the opposite: a pause. A surface for the eye to rest on, so that something quieter and deeper has room to surface.
Today I create both gallery-ready original works and bespoke commissions - pieces built specifically for a space, a palette, a mood. When a room needs one particular piece to feel complete, that's the work I enjoy most.
My Artistic Perspective
I believe art begins where words become insufficient. My work is guided by intuition, emotion, and a fascination with contrasts—not as opposites, but as forces that give one another meaning. Light and darkness, movement and stillness, precision and spontaneity coexist within every composition.
Rather than offering a single interpretation, I create space for personal perception. Each viewer brings a different story to the work—and discovers something different within it.
From Intuition to Form
My creative process begins with a feeling rather than a fixed image. I create each work layer by layer, allowing colour, texture, and material to influence its direction. Structure provides the foundation, while intuition determines when the composition is complete.
Epoxid resin, metallic elements, and textured surfaces are not simply decorative materials. They allow the artwork to respond to light, movement, and perspective—revealing qualities that cannot be experienced in a single glance.
Art in Dialogue with Space
I see a painting as more than an object placed within an interior. It changes the atmosphere of a room, creates tension or calm, and enters into a dialogue with its surroundings.
For bespoke commissions, I consider the architecture, proportions, light, colours, and emotional character of the space. The result is a work that feels deeply personal—created not merely to match an interior, but to give it presence and identity.
